Will wearing glasses help to avoid coronavirus
Experts claim you can delay the spread of coronavirus by covering your eyes— and your hands and mouth. Here's why protecting your eyes during the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is critical, and five ways you and others can help.
Coronavirus will spread across your eyes
Coronavirus causes moderate to serious respiratory disease. Symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath can occur 2 to 14 days after an exposure to a person. People with serious infections can develop pneumonia, and can die from disease complications.
Limiting eye exposure could help. This is for this reason: If a sick person coughs or speaks, virus particles will stream into the face of another person from their mouth or nose. Such droplets are most likely to be inhaled through your mouth or nose but they can also reach through your eyes.

You can even get infected
People with coronavirus can spread the disease through tears, too. Another gateway to infection may be to reach tears or a surface where tears have fallen.
You can even get infected by touching something that has the virus on it— like a table or doorknob — and closing your eyes afterwards.

Coronavirus may cause pink eye — but it’s rare
Just don't worry if you see someone with a pink eye. It does not mean a person is infected with coronavirus.
But health officials agree that viral pink eye, or conjunctivitis, develops among people with coronavirus in around 1 to 3 per cent. The virus can spread through the contact of discharge from the eyes of an infected person
How to help yourself and others:
It's important to note that while there is a lot of concern about coronavirus, precautions with common sense will substantially reduce the risk of being infected. So, wash your hands a lot, follow good hygiene of the contact lens and avoid touching or rubbing your nose, mouth and particularly your eyes.
Expect changes and procedures for your daily eye exams.
When you are due to go to the doctor's office for an eye test, you may be worried. Ophthalmologists work with many patients every day, face-to-face.
The doctor's face will be just a few inches away from yours during a slit-lamp exam

Yet be assured that ophthalmologists follow strict protocols for sanitation and disinfection, as all medical professionals do.
Here's what you might expect:
The clinic may ask you to wait outside rather than in the usual waiting area, or in your car. This is to protect you, the other patients and the staff at the office from germs that could circulate in crowded lobby areas.
Don't be surprised if they delay non-emergency surgeries and procedures. When coronavirus is present in your culture, you or your doctor may be exposed to the virus even through minor eye procedures. During emergency cases, physicians would also need to conserve the surgical equipment, including masks and face covers.
The eye doctor can use a special plastic barrier called a slit-lamp breath shield. This will help block breath exchange

Eye doctors recommend safety as follows:
If you have a cough or fever, approaching your doctor's office ahead of time and letting them know is important. We will ask you to stay home if your visit is not an emergency.
If you get sick, your doctor can ask you to wear a protective cover or mask and wait in a special room so that other patients will not be exposed.
When during your test, you expect a cough or sneeze, step back from the microscope and cover your face with a tissue. Wash your mouth, as soon as possible, with soap and water.

If you are wearing contact lenses, turn to glasses for some time.
Wearers of contact lenses damage their eyes more than the average person. "Try wearing glasses more often, particularly if, when your contacts are in, you appear to touch your eyes a lot.
Substituting lens glasses will lessen pain and cause you to pause before contacting your eye, follow these safety guidelines to limit the risk of infection if you choose to wear contact lenses.
3. Wearing glasses may add protective layer.
Infected respiratory droplets will protect your eyes from protective lenses or sunglasses. Yet they do not have protection at 100 %.
Now, the virus will enter your eyes from your glasses ' exposed hands, tops and bottoms. When you take care of a sick patient or a potentially vulnerable person, protective goggles will provide a better security.
4. Keep prescriptions for eye drops, if you may.
Researchers warn patients to stock up on essential medications, so if you are quarantined or if stocks are scarce during an epidemic, you'll have enough to get through.
Yet all of this might not be necessary. Unless your policy requires you to obtain more than 1 month of critical eye treatment, such as drops in glaucoma, then you will. In times of natural disaster some insurers will approve a 3-month supply of drugs.
When you have difficulty obtaining permission from your insurance provider, ask your pharmacist or ophthalmologist for help. And as usual ask for a refill as soon as you are due.
Don't wait to contact your pharmacy until last minute.

5. Avoid rubbing your eyes.
We're just doing the same. While breaking the normal habit can be difficult, doing so will reduce the risk of infection.
Choose a tissue instead of your fingers if you have an urge to scratch or rub your eye, or even change your glasses

Dry eyes can cause further rubbing, so consider adding moisturizing drops to the routine of your eyes. If for some cause –including to administer eye medication–you have to brush your eyes, wash your hands first with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
